This is technically the oldest unit in the fleet, and due for replacement sometime in the near future. We carry a complete array of Level-A, Level-b, and WMD response capabilities. And it's only getting bigger and better! In addition, we have the capability to provide decontamination to entrants, responders, and the affected public, to include emergency medical decontamination.
We have responded to numerous actual hazardous materials spills, suspicious packages, and other events. We are currently training more employees in Technician Level certification which will increase our capabilities and level of response.
"GEM-1" It's a damned electric cart! The Navy purchased use two of these electric carts from General Electric Motors (GEM). They are surprisingly good on the roads and off road. We use them for inspecting the 150-pond Halon (H-150) flight line extinguishers, and just general gophering. The red strobes are required for airfield operations.
