What is your Local doing for you?

Frankly, not enough!  However, we have begun a campaign inside the office where members can create and mail a personalized memo to their elected officials.  We're also beginning to widen our political foot-print in the Valley.

IAFF Legislative Conference 2009!

Washington, DC

The IAFF Local F-102 President, Vice President, and a member at large traveled to Washington DC .  The IAFF sponsors the annual Alfred J. Whitehead Legislative Conference as an opportunity for our nation's firefighters to persuade their elected officials to vote more favorably on firefighters issues.  While municipal fire departments have a local government to touch and feel...the federal fire departments do not.  Congress is like our "state governors" are to municipals.  This was our opportunity to make a difference for all firefighters, especially us!  Frankly, we were extremely pleased with not only the feedback, but also the reception of their offices and our presentations.

There were also many awesome guess speakers: VP Biden, Speaker of the House Pelosi, and Sen. Lieberman.

See the web casts at http://www.iaff.org/Events/2009LegCon/coverage.htm for more information.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein received a token of our appreciation, as did Congressman Jim Costa (CA-20).

Text Box: Helmet delivered a staff member of  Senator Dianne Feinstein.  Jolly Good!

Federal Firefighter Presumptive Legislation

H.R. 948 and S.599

The legislation we all refer to as the Presumptive Bill was introduced into the 111 Congress  The House assigned it as HR 948.  The sponsors of this bill are Representatives Lois Capps (D-CA) and Todd Platts (R-PA).  The Senate version is S. 599 and was sponsored by Senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Susan Collins (R-ME).

See the IAFF http://www.iaff.org/politics/legislative/Fedpresumptive.htm for up to date information.

IAFF Legislative Issues

There are many  legislative issues on the IAFF plate right now.  From Collective Bargaining to SAFER/FIRE Acts, to NSPS and the Federal Presumptive Bill.  The IAFF has it's finger on the pulse of Congress and is working diligently on our behalf to better our working conditions, improve labor relations, and the safety of our employees.

Everyone goes home safely, are secure in their jobs, and want to do it over again the next day.  Thank you General President Harold A. Schaitberger and staff for all your hand work in the trenches and out.  NEVER FORGOTTEN!

Visit the IAFF website for more legislative issues.  There is a wealth of information waiting to be viewed!
