New Fire Engine in Service!

17 Jan 2007

The Navy delivered a new 2006 Pierce Contender in October 2006.  Once the tools and radio were installed, it was placed in service.  The first response was a gas leak followed by two medical assists.

This truck is equipped with the hydraulic ladder rack, wireless controlled deluge gun, and enough compartment space to store more rescue equipment.

Construction Fire!

17 May 2006

Text Box: This was the scene upon arrival of the second due-in engine (Eng-1/Telesquirt).  The first-due engine (Eng-3) can be seen in the lower left corner making heir stand to stop the progression of the fire to unburned houses across the street.  The house in the center in structure #6, and structure #7 is beginning to pre-burn.

The Federal fire Department - NAS Lemoore experienced it's largest fire since this base was commissioned in 1960.  We responded to a fire in the construction area of base housing that consumed 7 duplex homes (14 units total) within a matter of minutes.  Mutual Aid was requested while enroute.  In all, one pumper, one 50' Telesquirt, one reserve ARFF/CFR truck, the battalion chief and fire chief from the base responded (11 personnel); AND Kings County Fire Department sent five engines, two patrols, one water tender, and thee chief officers to suppress this monster fire.  The units were in various phases of construction at the time of the fire...from exposed roof sheathing and exterior walls, to studded interiors awaiting sheet rock installation.  Nearly all of the adjoining structures received radiant heat damage.

Although no one was injured (except for the battle scar one member got, as well as the IV fluids another received) the property damage estimates are in the millions of dollars.  However, since the units were under construction at the time, the contractor technically owned them.

  The Not Too Distant Future!

    The Way of the Future!

This is the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft.  This aircraft is the replacement aircraft for all fighter & attack aircraft, to include the F/A-18 and scheduled to begin operational flight operations sometime in the future (supposedly!) here at NAS Lemoore.  The F-35 will reportedly have the best of the best of every aircraft, as well as the most innovative and technologically advanced systems on board.   Bring it on...we're ready for the challenge!

The Not Too Distant Past!

These are pictures of past emergencies and events.

This F/A-18 pilot ejected just before landing.  Low fuel was given as the cause for the incident.

This pilot overshot the centerline and slide into the center field area.

This was an engine fire on an F/A-18 that occurred during maintenance.

This one flip over on landing due to pilot error.  He crawled out of an 14-inch

hole in the canopy and was running next to the taxiway when we arrived.
