ARFFs refer to Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting vehicles, previously called Crash, Fire, Rescue (CFR). They are capable of responding to a downed aircraft incident on any terrain, any weather, anywhere. Their primary mission is to suppress the fuel enriched fires around the aircraft and extricate the pilot (or aircrew) from the cockpit, as well as passengers. They typically carry a crew of three. "C-1" 2009 Oshkosh T-3000 C-1 stands for "Crash-1". However, airfield policy is to not use the term "crash" unless one has occurred. The T-3000 carries 3000 gallons of water, 400 gallons of aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), 500 pounds of dry chemical agent, and awesome three fire fighters and is way bigger and better. This will be a front line ARFF once the radio is installed. "C-4" 2003 Oshkosh T-1500" The Oshkosh T-1500 Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) Vehicle carries 1500 gallons of water, 210 gallons of aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), 500 pounds of dry chemical agent, and awesome three fire fighters.
"C-5" 2004 Oshkosh T-1500" This Oshkosh T-1500 Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) Vehicle is the same as C-4. It is to become the reserve ARFF once C-1 is in-service.
